After graduating from Cornell University, Elaine Mode studied photography at the Smithsonian Institution and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. She began her professional career as assistant to the photo editor of the Washingtonian Magazine before setting out on her own. As a working photographer, her clients included the Democratic National Committee, the American Council on Education and the DC Public Schools, as well as business executives, government officials, authors and artists. She did volunteer photography projects for So Others Might Eat (for the homeless and hungry) and Mighty Special Music Makers (for disabled adults). In 2003 she moved to New York and studied digital photography and Photoshop at the International Center of Photography. Stimulated by her new urban environment, she has photographed Christo’s Central Park Gates and other New York art installations, the High Line, and Occupy Wall Street at Zuccotti Park. Her photographs have appeared in The Washington Post, The New York Times, Le Monde, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Chronicle of Higher Education and the ABA Journal. Elaine and her husband PJ live in Manhattan, not far from their children and four grandchildren in Brooklyn.
